Information about Trinity College Dublin Ultimate-Fest. this message comes from TRINITY COLLEGE DUBLIN and is relayed to you by David MacKay, Strange Blue. To coincide with the first birthday of the T.C.D. Ultimate Frisbee Society, we are holding the first-ever Irish Frisbee Tournament on the weekend of the 29th, 30th and the 31st of March. We would be delighted if you could attend this tournament, as, if successful, it would go a long way towards establishing Ultimate in Ireland. The event will be a "hat tournament" and promises to be both exhilarating AND intoxicating. 1}If you haven't been to Dublin before, we'll meet you at the airport/ferryport and go to the city centre with you. 2}Although we have been converted to Ultimate, it seems the establishment have not. Because of this, insurance costs and pitch rental are quite expensive. So we are looking for a fee of five pounds per head for the tournament. We are doing our best to cut costs wherever we can, so we can get as much beer as possible. 3}The idea of the "hat tournament" is only to facilitate those players who can't get a full team to come over. Depending on how many teams etc. we get, we'll sort this out at a later date. 4}Due to the nature of the Irish collegiate system, most students in Trinity live at home, so putting people up with our families may not be conducive to a hectic weekend of partying. We will try to put up as many as possible with those who have flats, but depending on how many come, hostels may have to be used. There's plenty of hostels in Dublin and they work out at about seven pounds a night including brekkers. That said; you are more than welcome to go from pub to late license bar to night-club to frisbee matches. It's not that cold in March! 5}If you have any other questions, just email us at mphillps@alf2.tcd.ie and we'll sort you out. If you want to send your fees as soon as possible it would be much appreciated. You can make your cheques out to the Trinity College Student Bar......erm....the Trinity College Dublin Ultimate Frisbee Society. Better get someone with small writing to make out that cheque!! 6}At this stage we would like to dispel rumours that our team are working on a revolutionary potato-shaped disc. Yes; we can laugh at ourselves here in Ireland!! 7}I meant to say earlier that hostels can be booked by us if that is your wish. Any other wishes will be dealt with on a first come, first served basis!! Please feel free to contact any other teams which you think may be interested in coming over to play and you feel we may have overlooked in our haste to get to the pub. Times are as follows: Play commences at 0930 hours on the Saturday and Sunday, with play possible on the Friday, dependant on the numbers involved. This will be clarified as soon as possible. There will be a meeting/alcoholic orgy of Roman proportions on the Friday night, at an ale house yet to be decided. As we will be meeting you off the boat/plane, we can advise you then. Directions to the Pitch at Trinity Hall will also be provided, in the form off a map of cartographical excellence. Cheques with entry fee can be sent to the following address, the home abode of the Reverend of the Trinity College Ultimate Frisbee Soc. 79 Shelmartin Avenue, Marino, Dublin 3, Republic Of Ireland. MacKay) To: frisbee@mrao.cam.ac.uk Subject: Dublin fares Dear All, here's information about going to Dublin by plane for the TCD tournie. If you leave on the Friday afternoon from stansted, it is quite expensive because all the cheap fares have gone (it is a busy weekend). There are flights leaving Stansted at 1535, 1605, and 1735. The flight takes 1hour 10 mins. The cost of a return ticket is 84 pounds. If you leave earlier on in the week (Monday 25 March, instead of Friday 29 March), then the price is 54 pounds for a return. It's recommended that you book quickly. Dora says she is keen to go too, and that Sander is. We might even get a squad of 7! (But it's a hat tournament, so it's not necessary to do so.) From tcd.ie!mphillps Tue Mar 12 21:20:13 1996 From: michael phillips Subject: Tourno Info Service. TRINITY COLLEGE DUBLIN ULTIMATE-FEST. Hey folks, here's a list of stuff which might/might not come in handy as you plan your assault on our city. First and foremost, thanks for your continued interest in the tournament. Here are the main points of the tournament to note. Some of you will have them already, some latecomers might not. Pay attention, there'll be questions on this stuff later. 1) The tournament will begin on Saturday morning @ 0930. If you are in Dublin on the Friday night, we will meet and go on the piss....i mean talk seriously about frisbee tactics. 2) If you haven't a full team, we can provide subs, but for the right fee. The Irish transfer system has got very serious lately, with players changing teams for as much as two pints of beer a time. Crazy. 3) The following is a list of accomodation which would be in our price-range. These ain't necessarily recommended now, but sure you can't go too far wrong. Abraham House 82-83 Gardiner Street, Dublin 1. (01) 8550600. Globe Trotters Hostel, 46 Gardiner Street, Dublin 1. (01) 8726301 Kinlay House Christ Church, 2 Lord Edward Street, Dublin 1. (01) 6796644. Celtic Budget Accomodation, 11 Anglesea Street, Dublin 2. (01) 6778179. All those phone numbers are exclusive of the code for Ireland, but inclusive of the code for Dublin (01). 4) If you haven't sent money to either us or Barry, please send it as soon as possible, as we have costs already. Thanks. 5) Any more questions and just give us a cyber-shout on mphillps@alf2.tcd.ie and we'll do our damndest to make your day a bit brighter. Ciao for now, Jonathan Freeman. To: mackay@mrao.cam.ac.uk Hi David, It's Peter (or pbenn@bnr.ca, as I was known in a previous life). Are you still planning on coming to Dublin at the end of March? I've been trying to get my life organized here, so I hope I haven't missed a chance to register. I sent an e-mail to Barry wrt registration etc. I may just show up to watch, even if I can't make it. Anyways, thought I'd drop you a line, now that I'm settled closer to home, TTYL, P.
